Our Club
The ANARE Club was founded in 1951 by veterans of the first Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions (ANARE). Our emblem is the beautiful Emperor penguin on a map of Antarctica. Currently we have around 1000 members with branches in most Australian capital cities.
We publish our Club journal, Aurora, four times a year and maintain a contemporary and dynamic website and Club email list to keep members informed of items of ANARE Club and general Antarctic interest.
Membership is open to anyone who has travelled to Antarctica or sub-Antarctic regions with the Australian Antarctic Program. Interested members of the public can become subscribers to the Club journal.
The aims of the ANARE Club are to:
Membership
Full membership is open to expeditioners who have served with ANARE below Latitude 50 degrees South.
Associate membership is available to those who have assisted ANARE, as well as members of other polar expeditions.
People with a general interest in Australian Antarctic and sub-Antarctic regions, history and current events are invited to subscribe to our quality magazine, Aurora, which is published quarterly. In conjunction with the club website, Aurora provides a valuable forum for discussing current happenings as well as presenting articles submitted by members detailing experiences 'down south'.
Membership for all categories (full, associate and subscriber) is $40 per year for Australian and Australian Territory postal addresses and $50 for overseas addresses. This includes postage and delivery of Aurora magazine.
There is currently a special offer for new members: Five years initial membership for the price of three.
Club souvenirs in the form of lapel badges, ties, T-shirts, plaques etc are also available for purchase via Aurora or this website.
