The National Library of Australia (NLA) has catalogued the Antarctic aerial photographs collection and have provided the following links to the collection:
- An overview from which the photographs may be identified. From there researchers can drill down via links to 245 individual records describing the main run of boxes. These can be sorted A-Z by place,e.g. Abrupt Point - Windmill Islands, or earliest to latest photography. Each record provides the number, place and other details, and date flown for specific runs of photos.
- A catalogue record, and a detailed finding aid: Guide to the Australian Antarctic Division Collection, miscellaneous research notes, photographs and survey material.
- A blog summarising the cataloguing project.
Here's some of the official National Programme sites of other countries, more will be added in the future:
- United Kingdom: The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is the United Kingdom's primary Antarctic research organisation. BAS is based at Cambridge in the UK and operates four year-round stations in Antarctica plus summer stations and logistic facilities.
- New Zealand: To quote from their website, "Antarctica New Zealand is the Crown Entity responsible for developing, managing and executing New Zealand Government activities in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean, in particular the Ross Dependency".
- Russia: The Russian Antarctic Expedition (RAE) is responsible for Russia's Antarctic programme. RAE operates three stations with which ANARE has regular contact (depending on the season and operational requirements) - Vostok, Progress and Mirny. They also operate other stations that do not have the same relevance to Australia.
- USA: By far the largest programme on the continent, the United States (USAP) operates a number of stations but the two most recognised are McMurdo and South Pole. ANARE uses McMurdo as a transit point for early season personnel transport to Casey
- China: To quote from their website, "Affiliated to the State Oceanic Administration (SOA) of China, Chinese Arctic and Antarctic Administration (CAA) performs the function of organizing Chinese Arctic and Antarctic expeditions and administering the related Arctic and Antarctic affairs on behalf of SOA." Davis Station has regular contact with Zhong Shan during the summer season.
